WhatsApp’s new disappearing messages feature

WhatsApp has added a new feature to its platform that allows users to send messages that will disappear after seven days. These messages can be sent on individual chats and groups, the company said on its support page.

The Facebook-owned company clarified that the feature will not affect messages sent or received prior to enabling the setting.

The disappearing messages feature can be enabled by users in individual chats, while only group admins can turn it on or off on groups. If a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the seven-day period, the message will disappear. However, the preview of the message might still be displayed in notifications until WhatsApp is opened, the company said.

Media received will be automatically downloaded to photos. If disappearing messages are turned on, media sent to the chat will disappear, but will be saved on the phone if auto-download is switched on. The message will not disappear in the forwarded chat if it is forwarded to another chat with disappearing messages setting turned off.

Disappearing messages will be included in the backup if the user creates a backup before the message disappears. Disappearing messages will be deleted when a user restores from a backup. WhatsApp recommends its users to use the feature only with trusted individuals since users can still forward, copy and take screenshots of the disappearing message before it vanishes.

The messaging app also rolled out a storage management tool to its platform, making it easier for users to manage space on their devices, it announced on Twitter.

Users can click on Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage to review, bulk delete and free up space. This comes after WhatsApp's 2 billion users complained about the lack of space on the messaging app. The feature will roll out to users worldwide by the end of this week.

FAU-G Set to Release in November as an Indian Alternative to PUBG

HIGHLIGHTS
  • FAU-G release month has been announced by NCore Games
  • The action game was announced early last month
  • FAU-G teaser was released by Akshay Kumar on Sunday

FAU-G, marketed as an Indian alternative to PUBG, is set to release in November, game publisher NCore Games announced in a tweet. The Bengaluru-based publisher announced FAU-G early last month — following the ban of PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in the country. FAU-G, also known as Fearless and United Guards, is designed to tap into the country's patriotism and anti-China sentiment. The first level of the game will be based on the Galwan Valley skirmishes between India and China.

Without providing any platform-specific details and a particular release date, NCore Games tweeted that FAU-G will launch in November. The game was originally planned to debut later this month.

The tweet posted by NCore Games also includes the first teaser that was released by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Sunday. The one-minute teaser gave us a glimpse into FAU-G's first level and highlighted the brawler mechanics being used by characters to fight with enemies.

FAU-G was announced just a couple of days after the government banned PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in the country. NCore Games co-founder Vishal Gondal, however, said that the game was in plans for some months. It plans to reach the 20 crore-users mark within a year.

Kumar and Gondal are both promoting FAU-G on their social media accounts since its announcement last month. However, we're yet to see whether the game would actually be able to garner a mass following in the country — especially among professional gamers and enthusiasts who earlier used to play PUBG Mobile.

NCore Games has also promised to donate 20 percent of the net revenues garnered from FAU-G to the government's fund-raising initiative, Bharat Ke Veer.

How it works

How do I visit cities?

  2. To visit any city within the game, you would need to collect both city ticket and kilometres (KM):
    1. A city ticket will allow you to travel to a specific city within the game -- the city ticket you collected will specify which city you will be able to visit.
    2. KM enables you to travel between cities -- you can visit a city of your choice from the present city location if you have enough KM to reach the city.
    3. The number of KM needed to visit one city from another city is different and generally based on the real distance between them. You will see a total number of KM needed to travel to a certain city in-game.
  3. You will receive a city photo upon reaching every city.
  4. You will not be able to travel back to the same city unless there is a virtual event during the game. The total number of cities you can visit per day is limited but will not be less than 3 cities - you will see an in-game notification once you reach the current applicable limit.

How to collect a city ticket?

There are lots of ways to collect them! You can make any of the following qualifying transactions to get a city ticket. You can get a ticket to the city for which you already have a ticket. This can be shared with friends to get KM in return.
