FAU-G Clocks More Than 1 Million Registrations on Google Play Store in Just Three Days

FAU-G mobile game has crossed the 1 million pre-registrations mark in just three days of the registrations going live on the Google Play Store, the game's developers announced on Twitter. FAU-G appeared on the Google Play Store on November 30 but only for pre-registrations. FAU-G, which is said to be a local alternative to those who used to play PUBG Mobile before it was banned in September. FAU-G was initially expected to arrive in October, but the launch was then delayed to November. We are in December now, and it is still not known when exactly the game will be rolled out.

FAU-G has been developed by nCore games, a Bengaluru-based company. nCore games had announced the pre-registrations for FAU-G on it Twitter three days ago for Android devices. The game has not been listed on the Apple App Store, which could mean that the developers may be sticking to an Android-only game for now at least. Users who have pre-registered for FAU-G will get a push notification when the game is available for download. Eligible devices will have the game automatically downloaded and installed. "Thank you for a fantastic response! Highest number of pre-registrations in India in less than 24 hours!," nCore games said on its Twitter.

Following its launch, FAU-G will compete against the upcoming PUBG Mobile India which is said to be a tweaked version of the original PUBG Mobile that was banned in the country back in September. According to a recent report by game sharing community, TapTap, PUBG Mobile India had over 200,000 pre-registrations requests, while FAU-G was reported to have seen about 60,000 registrations - therefore, indicating a tough start for the Bengaluru-based nCore Games.

PUBG has also been in the news for quite some time, and the game is said to launch in India shortly. The PUBG Mobile India developers PUBG Corp had announced that it severed ties with the China-based Tencent, and will ensure Indian users' data safety through several measures including a partnership with Microsoft for Azure cloud computing service.

FAU-G, Made-in-India Shooter, Goes Live on Google Play

HIGHLIGHTS
FAU-G was first teased in October following PUBG ban
The teaser emulated the India-China Galwan Valley clashes
It is developed by Bengaluru-based nCore Games

FAU-G mobile game has finally arrived on the Google Play store. The game has still not launched yet, but after multiple delays and changing launch dates, it has now been put up on the Google Play store for pre-registration. It seems like the developers are restricting themselves to Android, for now, to launch the new mobile game, as pre-registrations have not appeared on Apple's App store yet. The listing also details the storyline a bit more than its teaser had revealed. FAU-G, anticipated to take on PUBG Mobile India, was announced just two days after PUBG was banned along with 117 other Chinese apps in September. But more than an Indian alternative to PUBG, FAU-G is being heavily promoted as a patriotic game that highlights the contribution of the armed forces.

FAU-G, short for Fearless and United Guards, is now available on Google Play store for pre-registration. Users who have pre-registered will receive a push notification letting them know the game is available for download. Eligible devices will have the game automatically downloaded and installed. The size of the download and other details about the version have still not been revealed. But the listing gives a brief about the storyline and the gameplay.

As the teaser had revealed, the game was expected to have a level that emulates the Galwan Valley clashes between the Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). But the description of the game now suggests that the whole gameplay will be centred around Indian soldiers “high up on the peaks of India's northern border”. The characters will be called FAU-G commandos, an elite group of Indian soldiers patrolling the dangerous territory.

Tamil Nadu Bans Online Gaming Involving Betting; Rs. 5,000 Fine, Imprisonment for Violators

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The order comes in the backdrop of suicides by gamers
  • Andhra Pradesh had recently banned online gaming
  • The ordinance also banned "electronic transfer of funds" for betting

An ordinance to "ban online gaming" involving betting, has been promulgated by the Tamil Nadu government in the backdrop of suicides by gamers who allegedly lost money, and any violation would attract both fine and imprisonment, ranging up to two years.

The ordinance was promulgated by Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Friday based on a proposal from the state government, days after Chief Minister K Palaniswami promised action in this connection.

Incidentally, Andhra Pradesh had recently banned online gaming, besides betting and gambling, while neighbouring Union Territory Puducherry wrote to the Centre seeking a similar action on such activities following the alleged suicide of a man who lost money in it.

The ordinance promulgated by Purohit provides for provisions including "banning the persons who are wagering or betting in cyber space using computers or any communication device or resource," a Raj Bhavan release here said.

Palaniswami had recently said the government was taking steps to ban online games following demands from several quarters and complaints about suicides of people who lost money in such activities in the state.

The Madras High Court Madurai Bench is also hearing a case against online gaming.

Three people had allegedly died of suicide in Coimbatore this month due to heavy financial loss in the online rummy game.

"Due to online gaming, innocent people, mainly youngsters are being cheated and some people have committed suicide. In order to avoid such incidents of suicide and protect the innocent people from the evils of online gaming," the Government submitted the proposal, seeking amending relevant police acts, the release said.

Other provisions of the ordinance include punishing those found "gaming" with Rs. 5,000 fine and and six months imprisonment, two years jail and Rs. 10,000 fine for people who operate common gaming houses.

The ordinance also banned "electronic transfer of funds" used for wagering or betting, distributing the winnings, prize money and punishing those running the company which conducts online gaming by wagering and betting.

PUBG Mobile India Coming Back After Ban

PUBG Mobile was banned in India in September along with 117 other Chinese apps but the game was playable till last week

HIGHLIGHTS
PUBG Mobile India will be launching in the country for Indian players
PUBG Mobile has been unbanned in India
The game was banned by the Indian government in September

PUBG Mobile developers have announced that they will launch a new game called PUBG Mobile India to cater to Indian players. PUBG Mobile was banned back in September by the Indian government and around the same time, PUBG Corporation had announced that it will no longer authorise the PUBG Mobile franchise to Shenzhen-based Tencent Games in India. While the team had announced that it would terminate access for users in India starting October 30, the game is still playable for several people who had it installed on their Android and iOS devices.

PUBG Corporation has announced it is preparing to launch a new game called PUBG Mobile India that has been "created specifically for the Indian market." The new game will maximize data security for its players and adhere to the local regulations, the announcement said. PUBG Corporation states there will be regular audits and verifications on the storage systems that store the personal information of Indian users in order to make sure that the data is kept safe.

The developers have also shared that they will improve in-game content and also customise it to "reflect local needs." These changes include a virtual simulation training ground setting, clothing on new characters, and green hit effects instead of red. It will also add a feature to restrict game time for younger players.
Additionally, PUBG Corporation plans on establishing a local office where it will hire over 100 employees to enhance communications and services with players. "In addition to establishing a local office, the company will look to actively collaborate and leverage local businesses to strengthen its gaming service," the developers added.

Lastly, PUBG Corporation and parent company Krafton are planning to make $100 million (approximately Rs. 746 crores) investments in India to "cultivate the local video game, e-sports, entertainment, and IT industries." As of now, the team has not shared a release date for PUBG Mobile India.

OnePlus 8T Review

OnePlus 8T 5G

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The OnePlus 8T has an AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate
  • It supports 65W fast charging and comes with the charger in the box
  • It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC
OnePlus 8T design
The OnePlus 8T continues to feature an aluminium frame with a glass back, but the design is very different compared to the OnePlus 8. The sides of the display aren't curved anymore, which makes the front look less striking, but it's definitely more practical. It's easier to see and interact with content at the edges of the display. Plus, there's no vignetting effect which is typically seen on curved-edge displays. The second thing I noticed is that the OnePlus 8T is heavier (188g vs 180g) and thicker (8.4mm vs 8mm) compared to the 8. The exact reasons are unclear but this new model feels top-heavy even without a case. Prolonged one-handed use can get fatiguing quickly.

The new Aquamarine Green colorway looks great, and despite it having a glossy finish, fingerprints aren't a big problem. The OnePlus 8T also comes in a Lunar Silver colorway, which is said to have a matte-frosted finish. The camera module is shifted to the left instead of being in the middle, and its rounded corners match the softer contours of the rest of the phone.
OnePlus has made some subtle improvements to the display too. It's the same size and resolution as that of the OnePlus 8, at 6.55 inches and full-HD+, but it now supports a 120Hz refresh rate just like the 8 Pro. OnePlus claims the touch sampling rate has also been bumped up to 240Hz (from 180Hz on the 8), for better touch response. The display is also HDR10+ certified, and has a JNCD colour accuracy rating of under 0.55 as well as a maximum brightness of 1,100nits. OnePlus says the 8T has a slimmer chin since the display connector now bends behind the panel. I don't see much of a difference (if any) when comparing the 8T and the 8 side by side. Finally, there's a cutout in the upper-left corner for the single selfie camera.
The button layout will be familiar to OnePlus users. The power and volume buttons sit on opposite sides of the frame, there's an alert slider for switching between ringer profiles, a USB 3.1 Type-C port on the bottom, and no headphone jack. The OnePlus 8T has a dual-SIM tray, but no option to increase storage.

The OnePlus 8T ships with the usual set of accessories — a data cable, charger, SIM eject tool, sticklers, silicone case, and user guides. One big change this time is the type of charger you get. It's a 65W charger which OnePlus calls Warp Charge 65, which we'll talk about later.

The new design of the body and display make the OnePlus 8T look good, and a 120Hz refresh rate is always welcome, but that's the extent of this model's physical upgrades. It still doesn't have an IP rating or support wireless charging, which is disappointing.
OxygenOS 11 features a new “bold” design, taking a cue from Samsung's One UI. Most of the stock OnePlus apps now show their names in big, bold letters when you open them, and this shrinks to a regular size as you scroll down. You can see this across most of OnePlus' stock apps such as Clock, Settings, Notes, Recorder, Gallery, etc, but not the File Manager app for some reason.

A quick swipe down on the home screen brings up the OnePlus Shelf, which shows recently launched apps and some contextual information from apps. This gesture can easily be changed to pull down the notification shade instead. There's a proper Dark Mode setting now, which can be scheduled and can work independent of the theme you've set. OnePlus has also finally added a proper Always-On-Display (AOD) feature too. The new Insight AOD is interesting as it shows you how many times you've unlocked your phone. OnePlus says it will be adding more features to its stock apps and the AOD through a software update in November.

OnePlus 8T performance
OnePlus usually uses Qualcomm's slightly speedier ‘+' SoC variants for its refreshes but sadly, we have no such luck with the OnePlus 8T. It continues to sport the standard Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. It will be available in two configurations at the time of launch — 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for Rs. 42,999, and 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for Rs. 45,999. I have the higher-end variant with me.

The OnePlus 8T uses UFS 3.1 flash storage, compared to UFS 3.0 in the OnePlus 8. According to the Androbench test, though, there doesn't seem to be a big difference in read/write speeds. However, the OnePlus 8T still uses LPDDR4X RAM and not DDR5 RAM like in the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, face recognition, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. The OnePlus 8T also supports multiple satellite navigation systems and the expected suite of sensors, plus a flicker detection sensor in the camera module.
